Life is simple, just not easy. It is a matter of choice and consequence. But really what informs our choice is the bigger question.
You see ,adversity is a crossroads that makes a each of us choose one of two paths; Character or compromise. Every time we we choose character, we become stronger even if that choice brings negative consequences – The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader.
Many a times I have heard the saying that we need to think outside the box. Just like i have always had issues and concerns with people who say life is short – (I ask them compared to what? because really, life is the longest thing that is- well that’s story for another day), i have had my qualms with this premise. First, who defines the box? How big is it? How do I know that now i am actually thinking outside the so called box? As a christian, i choose to define my Box – The Bible. In Romans 12:2 ; it says “Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.”
In his letter to the Romans, Paul reminds us that as followers of Christ, our thinking and minds ought to be renewed and be in line with what God wills for us. The world around us is full of confusion and diverse views, however, we must maintain in alignment with God’s perfect will. That is why we decide to think inside The Box, and that box for me, is the word of God. Timothy 2:15 says that we must be diligent in our study of God’s word, so as to present our selves as accomplished soldiers. It is only by studying God’s word that our thinking will be inline with His will. Once we align our thinking, then we must seek Him day and night through Prayer. The patterns of this world will always conflict with our godly line of thought and direction, but we must purposefully choose our God defined destiny.
The world around us is full of ungodly patterns. The Bible in 1 Peter 5:8 reminds to be alert and of sober mind. That our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. It is therefore important that as a Christian, you be vigil and on the look out. Every time we are making a decision, it ought to be informed and be made on the premise of God’s word, Every time, No exception.
Finally, Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Refuse to think outside the box, instead, make a choice to think outside the patterns of this world.
Yours truly…
